A craft lover’s Jaipur
A slower route through the city and Amber

Make room for a museum, a demonstration and time to look. A few considered stops are enough.
Start by looking, not rushing
Rather than trying to collect every landmark in one day, give a Jaipur visit a theme. For a textile lover, that might be pattern: the repeat of a window, a border on cloth or the way a carved surface catches light. This suggested route leaves room to stop and ask questions.
Explore the old city
Rajasthan Tourism highlights the City Palace museum’s costume and textile collections, including garments with Sanganeri prints. Hawa Mahal offers another way to look at repetition through its layered façade. Treat these as separate visits with time between them, rather than a race through a checklist.
Make time for Amber
The tourism department places Amber around 11 kilometres from Jaipur. Pair an exploration of the palace area with a separate visit to the Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing. Housed in a restored haveli, the museum is dedicated to the craft and its history. Plan transport and opening times before setting out.
Watch the hands at work
The museum advertises demonstrations by block printers and a block carver, with opportunities to engage with the craft. Check its current schedule directly. If you arrange a workshop visit elsewhere, confirm it in advance, ask permission before photographing people and agree any demonstration or workshop charge. A working studio is also someone’s workplace.
Leave space in the day
Carry water, allow for traffic and heat, and choose fewer stops if that lets you enjoy them properly. When shopping, ask about fibre, printing method and care, and request measurements for clothing. Keep a note of the maker or shop with your receipt. The most useful souvenir may be a better understanding of the piece you bring home.
Before you travel
